Firing between TSR and NLFT, 1 rebel killed in Raisyabari

Agartala, Jul 23, 2012 : One NLFT (BM) militant was gunned down by TSR jawans in a fierce encounter at bordering Majimani Para village under Raishyabari police station in Dhalai district on Sunday noon.

Police said, a contingent of TSR jawans led by Subedar Bankim Debbarma of 12th battalion TSR went out for regular anti-insurgency combing operation on Sunday morning.

When the troops reached Majimani Para, about 30km North-East from police station, a group of 6 to 7 extremists, suspected to be NLFT (BM) faction started indiscriminately firing targeting the TSR jawans from a hill top near an unfenced area of Indo-Bangla border. 

Immediately TSR jawans also retaliated heavily and the exchange of fire continued for about 20 to25 minutes. The armed militants also hurled several grenades to stop the advancing security forces.

Later, militant group escaped from the spot towards Bangladesh taking the advantage of dark forest.

In the course of search operation TSR jawans recovered the unknown body of a militant aged about 30 years. Later identified as Baijoy Tripura (30) of Bagirathpara village under Gandacherra police station. Forces also recovered an AK-47 rifle, 2 magazines of AK-47, 50 rounds of ammunition and 2 Chinese grenades near from dead body.

TSR jawans also detected blood stains at several places in the forest which indicated that other ultras may have suffered bullet injuries.

However, there are no injuries in TSR side.

Soon after the incident, SP (Dhalai) L. Darlong rushed to the spot with reinforcement to assist the forces and to monitor the situation. TSR jawans were pressed into action to carry out massive manhunt in adjoining areas of the encounter spot. BSF jawans have been asked to keep tight vigil along the unfenced border areas.
