Agartala, Aug 18, 2012 : Chief Minister Manik Sarkar appealed to all people to maintain peaceful environment in the country.
Reacting to the recent incidents of fast spreading rumours of possible attack on the people of Northeast in Karnataka and other parts of the country, Sarkar here on Friday said, all the students and professionals of Tripura are safe in Karnataka and there are no reports of attack on Tripura students.
He said, Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chowdhury and chief secretary Dr S K Panda on Friday also spoke to their counterparts in Karnataka urging foolproof security and safety measures for students from the North East studying in Bangalore and other towns of that state.
Chowdhury, while informing the presence of hundreds of students and professionals from the state in Bangalore, told his counterpart that people and government of the state were worried about the safety and security of their near and dear ones.
Sarkar termed Kokrajhar incident as painful and alleged that opportunist forces are trying to destroy the peaceful atmosphere of the country.
‘There is no time to dilate upon the situation of panic, we should come forward to maintain the peace and normalcy’, said Sarkar.
Opposition Congress also discussed the situation with Union government officials on Friday and sought directives from the Center to Karnataka government to look after the welfare and security of the North East people studying or working in the state.
However, Tribal Welfare department of the state government in a official communiqué said, there are no reports of Tripura students and professionals leaving Bangalore or Hyderabad.
L H Darlong, secretary of Tribal Welfare department said, “as soon as the matter was brought to the notice of government, the head of the institutions, where students form Tripura had been officially sponsored, were contacted over phone individually and it was learnt that all the students were safe”.
