Govt hopeful of getting power from Palatana project before Durga Puja, says Manik

Agartala, Aug 02, 2012 : The state government is expecting to enjoy power from ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) before the coming Durga Puja season, Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey said on Wednesday. Speaking during the inauguration of accounts of achievements of the department since 1972, Dey said that the first unit of Palatana power plant is well on its way of commissioning.

The state will be getting 98 MW from the project according to the power purchase agreement signed between state government and OTPC. Speaking on the issue, power minister Dey said that the government is hopeful of solving the current power deficit to a large extent once Palatana plant starts generating its share.

Meanwhile, the state has started wide range of arrangements for transmission and evacuation of power from the plant after its commissioning. A 132 KV line would connect the project with state’s own network, one 400 KV line would connect the project site with Suryamaninagar grid, an alternative 132 KV line would connect the project site with Bodhjungnagar industrial estate and a separate line would be transmitting the rest of power to 79 Tilla-based sub-station. An alternative 132 KV transmission line ranging from East Kanchanbari in North Tripura district is expected to connect Silchar with the North district to ensure uninterrupted power supply despite disruption in the transmission line.
