Tripura records massive rise in literacy

Agartala, Aug 09, 2012 : Tripura has recorded a massive rise in literacy as found from the results of examination conducted by ISI, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said here recently. Speaking to reporters, the CM had said that around 66 thousand illiterate people were identified in the state between 15 to 50 years of age. The latest meeting of Tripura Literacy Mission found out the massive success of the state.

As a part of imparting literacy among them, a training unit and examination centre was west up in each district. 98 percent of the people who came under the coverage of the initiative appeared in the examination and 97.98 percent of them succeeded to pass the test.

The Chief Minister also said that the state government has already started collecting information for the next phase of imparting literacy. A survey for the purpose would be completed by September 15 and the new phase of plan would be set afoot.

The state was found to have an average 87.75 percent literacy according to the latest census report. Tripura was awarded President’s Award in 2011 for effective reduction in literacy gap between male and female population as well. The Chief Minister also said on the day that a massive rise in interest for literacy has been noted among the female population, especially among the tribal communities.
