Tripura faces reduction in power for grid line failure

Agartala, Aug 01, 2012 : Tripura has fallen prey to power crisis on Tuesday along with several other Northeastern states after power grid line failed this afternoon, Power Minister Manik Dey said here on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference at the civil secretariat, the minister said that grid line failed for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan around 2.35 AM last night. While the line was restored last night itself, the grid line tripped once again for the eastern and northern region counting Northeast in itself this afternoon. Parts of southern India were affected due to the grid line failure today as well.

The grid line failed around 1.02 PM this afternoon; Tripura experienced the effect at 1.34 PM. The line was restored soon after but the Power Ministry was reported to have imposed a set of restrictions on all the affected states for the day.

The power minister stated that the grid line has failed due to over-drawal of power from UP and Haryana. Though grid line service in Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura was restored shortly after the disruption, all affected states were strictly asked to stay within the concerned allocated limits, said he. The Ministry has warned that power connections would be disconnected if any violation of the directive is noticed from any of the affected states.

Tripura was allocated barely 30 MW in the daytime on Tuesday and around 70 MW is expected to be derived in the evening, informed the minister. He also added that all 33, 66 and 132 KV power sub-stations of the state have been asked to stay within their certified limits for the time being.
