YC alleges massive irregularities in TBSE

Agartala, Aug 13, 2012 : Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress on Monday flayed the ruling Left Front government saying that the government is trying to break backbone of younger generation to make way for return to power in the state. “Barely 20 percent of students appearing in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) actually manage to pass every year. The Board is compelled at the behest of the ruling party to increase the pass percentage by allowing grace marks to make the performance of ruling government in education sector look better”, said Pradesh Youth Congress president Sushanta Choudhury.

Speaking to reporters at Pradesh Congress Bhawan on the day, Choudhury said that a document of 1980 signed by Ananta Dhar, father of incumbent CPI (M) state general secretary Bijan Dhar and the then secretary of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education says that around 17 percent candidates who appeared in board exams at the time managed to actually pass in the exams. Referring to the document, the Youth Congress president claimed that the organization has conducted research on the issue which revealed that pass percentage in the board exams hasn’t risen above 17 percent to 20 percent in average. Current pass percentage of ST boys is the board exams stands at 47 percent; the count is even feeble among girls – 38 percent.

“Barely 114 students out of 7,978 who appeared as regular candidates in Madhyamik exams passed in first division across the state while 24 out of 25 ST students who appeared in Madhyamik examination from Ramakrishna Mission School, Viveknagar, passed in first division. Infrastructure and quality of school education in rural hamlets is extremely poor”, claimed Youth Congress.

Speaking about the upcoming recruitment bid of Under-Graduate Teachers (UGT) in School Education Department, the Youth Congress chief stated that the opposition youth and student brigades wouldn’t tolerate even minimal violation of conditions laid down by the Right to Education Act, 2009. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has notified zero compromise on quality education and we consider this mandatory to ensure quality education to the students, said he.
