Dey said that the state government had earlier decided to take stringent action against the government employees, who were enjoying the facilities of BPL (Below poverty Line) ration cards.

All the BPL card holders, who were appointed to government jobs, would have to surrender their respective BPL cards, said Dey adding that so far a large section of government employees had surrendered their BPL cards and those who acquired it illegally would be cancelled with punishment.

The government employees having BPL ration cards, would be given APL cards after submission of their existing BPL cards, said Dey adding that the cancellation process of government employees’ BPL ration card would continue till it stood zero in the state.

Dey added that, government till July had collected about Rs 1 crore as fine from illegal holders by affluent families including government staff.

As per the new guidelines, BPL cardholders will get PDS rice at subsidized rates and collect 35 kgs at a price of Rs 2 per kg in a month from August 1 next and APL cardholders will receive only 20 kgs of rice at a price of Rs 10.60 per kg.
