Tripura resolves additional benefit, recruitment reservation for ASHA workers

Agartala, Aug 17, 2012 : The state cabinet has decided to allow special benefits to Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers from the current financial year as recognition to their contribution to improvement of healthcare services, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said on Friday. Briefing about the decisions taken in a cabinet meeting held on August 14 here, the CM said that ASHA workers have contributed a lot to the bottomline of developing healthcare services in the state ever since National Rural health Mission (NRHM) scheme was implemented in the state.

ASHA workers are currently allowed a fixed amount-based incentive on their services, the benefits of which again often comes much delayed, said the Chief Minister on Friday adding that the state government has resolved to add 33.33 percent to the existing incentive allowed to them as additional benefits. State government has also adopted a decision to ensure 10 percent recruitment in the posts of Multi-Purpose Workers (MPW) in the state heath department from ASHA workers who have exceeded 5 years of service in the discipline, added he. 7,367 ASHA workers are currently serving in Tripura with 46 percent hailing from different Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities.
