A few years ago when the NSD proposed to us the introduction of Theatre-in-Education, we had no clear idea about it. But today I understand that it is a historic day for the theatre lovers of the state and all credit goes to NSD, said Sarkar.

The NSD has opened its first camp office here under the banner of ‘Theatre-in-Education’ in collaboration with the Higher Education department and Cultural Affairs departments of the state.

The infrastructures were set up in the state to encourage cultural activities. It should be utilized properly, said Chief Minister adding that success will certainly come in the coming days if we accept it responsibly.

Appreciating the NSD role, Sarkar urged the people in general to come forward to attain the goal. He added that initially the course would be held at Nazrul Kalakshetra here, but the state government was searching for land to build a new setup with all modern facilities.

NSD’s director Dr Anuradha Kapur pointed out that NSD selected the state for its venture considering the potential and positive environment of cultural development.

The one-year course had been designed in a multi-disciplinary manner to equip students with theatre expertise while they were familiarized with basic theatre history, design, content and stagecraft, said Kapur.

ICAT Minister Anil Sarkar also addressed the inaugural session.

Altogether 20 students were admitted to the course of which ten students are from the state and the rest from outside of Tripura. An Interview Board, headed by the coordinator of the course, Kirty Jain, former director of NSD, selected the candidates. Notably, the NSD would form a group with the successful pass outs which would stage drama in different parts of the country after one year.
