MLA Partha Das will face action if allegations proved correct, says CM

Agartala, Aug 08, 2012 : Chief Minister Manik Sarkar assured on Tuesday that the state government will take action on MLA Partha Das if the state level Scheduled Caste (SC) welfare committee report declares his caste certificate fake. Speaking to reporters in the sidelines of a press conference on Tuesday, the CM said, “Partha Das resorted to self-defense when the allegation was raised against him. We haven’t got any such document yet. If such reports have been derived, the government shall take action on him”.

Partha Das was elected in 2008 from Shalgarah assembly constituency with a massive margin of South Tripura district. Das’s elder brother – Chandan Lal Das, a homeo-physician by profession, was dismissed from service after his caste certificate was declared fake.

Anil Chandra Das, Assistant Secretary of Tripura State Level SC Welfare Committee, filed a complaint to the National Commission of Scheduled Caste, Government of India on March 18, 2008 seeking cancellation of MLA Partha Das’s caste certificate. A group of other members of the committee namely Subhash Biswas and others became party in the complaint as well and the opposition pressed for Das’s expulsion from the House.

Three separate enquiries conducted on the allegation against MLA Partha Das found him guilty of using fake caste certificate. Sub-divisional officer (Sadar), Chairman of the Scheduled Caste welfare sub-committee and the District Magistrate, West Tripura conducted the inquiries and categorically ruled that the MLA’s SC certificate is fake.
