Tapan smells politics behind computer facuties agitation

Agartala, Aug 23, 2012 : The agitating computer faculties are being used for playing politics by certain stakeholders, School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said on Thursday. Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat on the day, Chakraborty said that the state government has accepted demands of agitating computer faculties and has notified a hike of Rs. 2,000 over their existing pay.

“Opposition MLA Subal Bhowmik and Ajoy Biswas, chief of their ally party – PDS came to us and discussed about the issue. They were quite satisfied about our explanation”, said the minister and said that certain stakeholders are trying to politicalize the issue.

Demands of computer faculties, who have resorted to hunger strike, have been carefully considered by the state government, the minister said adding that the consideration was made purely on humanitarian basis.

“These people are working in a project sanctioned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under BOOT model. The model is implemented by private service providers over which the state government initially expressed reservation”, said Chakraborty. He also added that the centrally sponsored scheme is implemented in the stae on a 90:10 basis.

The School Education Minister also said that the council of ministers considered the matter and decided that rate of honourarium paid to the facuties would be hiked from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000 per month. The hike would come into effect from April 01, 2012, he said. The government has appealed the agitating faculties to withdraw the strike forthwith as well.
