Tripura approves compensation for Meghalaya bus accident victims

Agartala, Aug 18, 2012 : The state government has approved Rs. 50 thousand as immediate compensation for the families of seventeen persons killed in the gruesome bus accident in Guwahati-Agartala route in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said on Friday. Speaking to reporters at civil secretariat on the day, the CM said that the cabinet decided in a recent meeting to allow Rs. 50,000 as compensation to next kin of the deceased persons. The accident which occurred on August 08 in Tongseng, East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya left 30 dead and 27 injured. 17 people among the casualties were from Tripura. The state government had extended assistance to the troubled passengers at war footing by sending a relief team alongwith medical officers to the spot from Unakoti district. Treatment expenses and expenses for transporting bodies from Meghalaya back home was borne by the government as well.
