CM stresses on development of sports infrastructure

Agartala, Aug 28, 2012 : With the principal initiatives for education, health and sports facilities for all, Tripura government is moving ahead to achieve the goal’, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

Addressing a felicitation programme for Sports awardees in national games here at Nazrul Kalakshetra on Monday, Sarkar said the human resource development of the country would not be possible till the development of education and health infrastructures of the country.

Congratulating all the medal winners of London-2012 Olympic andUnder-19 World Cup Cricket winner team, Sarkar said ‘it’s indeed a pleasant moment attending a prize giving ceremony for national awardees.

‘A country having a total population of 1.25 crore, got only six medals in Olympic without any gold medal, it is shameful for every citizen of the country’, said Sarkar.

The faulty sports policies of UPA government are responsible for backwardness in sports, said Sarkar adding that a transparent and fresh sport policy should be adopted for overall development of sports atmosphere of the country.

Altogether 233 national level awardees from Tripura have been felicitated with cash prize and Golden girl gymnast Dipa Karmakar has also been awarded with cash prize of Rs 15 lakh from DoNER Ministry of Union government.
