Maharaja Pradyot Kishore calls for change in coming assembly election

Agartala, Aug 23, 2012 : Maharaja Pradyot Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, scion of the Tripura royal family, has called for a change in power in Tripura in the coming assembly election. Speaking at a public rally organized by Congress ST Cell in Gandacherra sub-division on Wednesday, Maharaj said that tribal communities of the state have got lots of grievances during 19 years of left rule in Tripura. Large number of tribal population from distant tribal hamlets of the sub-division like Jagabandhu Para, Taichakma, Raishyabari, Ratannagar etc participated in the rally to hear dear old ‘bubagra’ speak.

Condition of far-flung tribal hamlets haven’t changed much in two decades of left regime in the state, said Maharaja adding that the era of ‘deprivation’ has to change. There is massive shortfall in providing education, drinkning water, proper road connectivity and health services to the tribal population in most parts of the state and Gandacherra is one of the burning examples, he said.

Maharaj claimed that marginal development has been done in the state which again was funded by the central government. Large chunks of funds meant for centrally sponsored scheme was siphoned off by the ruling party in Tripura, he alleged. He also urged for unified struggle in the coming assembly election to ensure end of the Left rule.
