HSRP marking to be introduced in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 27, 2012 : The Transport department of Tripura will introduce the scheme for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for all kinds of private and commercial vehicles across the state from July 30 next.

Addressing a media gathering here at ‘Transport Bhavan’ on Friday noon, joint transport commissioner, Nirmal Adhikari said, the implementation of HSRP project would be introduced in the state as per directives of Supreme Court under Central Motor vehicles Riles-50 and Motor vehicle act-1989.

He said, the union ministry of Road Transport and Highway has formulated the HSRP as distinguished from the current conventional number plates.

In Tripura, ‘Ackruti Safeguard Systems private limited’ has been appointed as implementing agency and the project will be formally inaugurated by Transport Minister Manik Dey on July 30 next here at Transport Bhavan, said Adhikari.

He said, at first stage of the project all the new vehicles would be provided with HSRP from July 30 next and gradually all the old motor vehicle number plates would be converted with high security number plates from all motor vehicle inspector (MVI) offices.

Speaking in the press meet, Girish Karhadkar, vice-president of Ackruti systems said, India is the first country, currently using seven high security features in vehicles number plates.

He said, Meghalaya is the first state of the country to have implemented HSRP project in the state and at present several states are also implementing this project.

Giving details of HSRP, Karhadkar said, HSRP shall be displayed both at the front and rear of all motor vehicles clearly with seven technical features.

“Each plate shall be protected against counterfeiting by applying chromium-based hologram; stickers and adhesive labels are not permitted and the plate shall bear a permanent consecutive identification number of minimum seven digits, to be laser branded into the reflective sheeting and hot stamping film shall bear a verification inscription”, said Karhadkar.

Apart from the registration marks on the front and rear, the third registration mark in the form of a self-destructive type, chromium based hologram sticker would be affixed on the left-hand top side of the windshield of the vehicle. The registration details such as registration number, registering authority etc would be printed on the sticker, said Karhadkar.

The size of the plate for different categories of vehicles would be different as per norms, said Karhadkar adding that two wheeler owners have to pay Rs 385 for HSRP, three wheelers to pay Rs 498, light motor vehicles/passenger cars to pay Rs 668 and medium, heavy commercial vehicles would also have to pay Rs 668 for HSRP. 

Senior MVI Dibakar Das, Kamalesh Shaw, director of Ackruti systems along with other officials were also present in the press meet.
