State government sympathetic to computer faculties, asks to keep trust

Agartala, Aug 19, 2012 : The state government on Sunday expressed sympathy to computer faculties working on contractual basis in different schools of the state saying that the government is trying to help them but forceful measures wouldn’t do any good. We expect they will keep trust on the government, School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty and Principal Secretary of the department – Banamali Sinha said.

Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, the minister said that computer faculties are serving under ICT@School Project – a centrally funded project for promoting computer education in school level. The scheme is monitored by the Ministry for Human Resource Development [MHRD] and there is no way the state government can interfere into its regulation, the minister said pointing out at the way computer facuties started agitation demanding regularisation of service among several other demands. Around 35 computer faculties including few females started mass hunger strike at Agartala three days back on the issue.

The minister today appealed the protesting faculties to withdraw the agitation and said that the state cabinet has sent a proposal for raising salary of computer faculties to the ministry. However, there is no word from New Delhi on the issue yet, he said.

Over 700 computer faculties are currently serving in 350 schools of the state while computer education waits to be initiated in 282 more schools shortly under the scheme. Revised ICT@School Project- second phase of the scheme, has already approved a minimum salary of Rs. 5,000 for each computer faculty to be recruited in the new phase. However, the scheme hasn’t pointed out anything about hike in salary of existing 700 computer faculties of the state.
