AICC declare panel for screening candidates for Tripura

Agartala, Jul 26, 2012 : The All India Congress Committee (AICC) constituted a five member panel for screening candidates in poll-bound Tripura in the ensuing assembly poll which is scheduled to be held in February next.

The Congress panel to screen candidates for assembly election will be led by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Gogoi will be assisted by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Rahul Gandhi’s close aide Jitin Prasad, AICC General Secretary, in-charge Tripura Luizinho Faleiro, Tripura Pradesh Congress president Sudip Roy Burman and opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath.

Soon after the declaration of the ‘screening panel for candidates’, there has been reaction in the rank and file of the state Congress.

Although 60-members Tripura legislative assembly has 30 reserved seats for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC), there are no representatives in the screening committee from these communities, said a dissident leader of the party.

Besides, two more Screening Committees were also announced by AICC for poll bound Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.

AICC sources added that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Minister CP Joshi will look after Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat respectively.

Ms Dikshit heads the committee for Himachal Pradesh which has Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh, AICC General Secretary Birendra Singh, PCC chief Kaul Singh Thakur and CLP leader Vidya Stokes as members.

In Gujarat, Joshi will lead a team of Minister of State for Petroleum and Corporate Affairs RPN Singh, AICC in-charge Mohan Prakash, PCC chief Arjun Modhwadia and CLP leader Shaktisinh Gohil.
