CM warns of resurgent militancy in Tripura on I-Day

Agartala, Aug 15, 2012 : Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, on the 66th Independence Day, warned Tripura’s resurgent insurgency of impending action unless good sense prevails soon. Speaking at the central programme on the day at Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala, the CM spoke in a terse tone that few militant cadres have feigned false surrender and have gone back to the jungles taking advantage of all benefits allowed by the government. This is very akin to treachery with the trust and goodwill of the state government, said Sarkar. “Security forces had tackle insurgency hand-in-hand with the common people in the yesteryears. Good sense should prevail among the confused youths or else the security forces will have to start similar initiatives with cooperation from the masses”, warned he.

Scoffing at Congress-led UPA government at the centre, the CM said that central government is pursuing policies which are likely to throw both nation and the state to deeper depths. “The centre is trying to interfere in the areas solely governed by state governments. This is a direct attack on the entity of the states”, said he. Tripura is following an alternate policy compared to New Delhi and has achieved tremendous success in road connectivity, progress in industrial sector, alleviation of poverty and such sectors, added he.

Sarkar also expressed serious discontent at the way things have turned out after 66 years of Independence in the nation. “People are going averse to the spirit of Independence by the day. India became independent with lots of dreams and aspirations which the political parties have, by and large, failed to deliver”, said he. “When it comes to the picture of the entire nation, poverty, illiteracy, poor health services still prevail- a lot. Tripura is far better but there is no scope for complacency”, added CM.
