Youth Congress and NSUI call 12 hours strike on Friday

Agartala, Jul 10, 2012 : Pradesh Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) today declared a 12 hour long general strike on July 13 against alleged irregularities in answer script evaluation of the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examination (TBJEE). Pradesh Youth Congress president Sushanta Choudhury claimed in a press conference this afternoon that Pradesh Congress president Sudip Roy Barman and opposition leader Ratan Lal Nath have assured to extend full support to the strike.

Accusing Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of masterminding the alleged joint entrance scam, Youth Congress demanded immediate resignation of the CM. “We have got information that the Chief Minister has been controlling all affairs of the Higher Education Department since years depriving the concerned minister of his duties. The High Court order to seize answer scripts of the entrance examination has proved that a scam was indeed conducted”, said Pradesh Youth Congress and NSUI. The High Court had ordered to seize all answer scripts of the joint entrance examination earlier today. Counseling was ordered to be stopped from tomorrow as well.

The opposition student outfit also sought dismissal of the joint entrance board chairman and his arrest on criminal charges of carrying out the scam. Both Youth Congress and NSUI have demanded publication of a fresh merit list based on correct evaluation of the answer scripts.
