Agartala, Jul 07, 2012 : Former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s victory in the presidential election is almost certain, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. Speaking to reporters after discussion with Mukherjee on the presidential election, Sarkar said, “it appears that his victory is almost certain. We shall expect him to act and protect secularism, federal democracy and pluralism during his role as President”.
Tripura’s ruling CPI (M) had extended support to Pranab Mukherjee after the party’s politburo decided to support the Congress candidate in presidential poll fray.
Terming Pranab Mukherjee as ‘seasoned politician’, the Chief Minister today said that CPI (M) expects him to play his role in handling political instability well in the coming days. He has also invited Mukherjee to start his visit in the nation as President with Tripura.
