Agartala, Jul 10, 2012 : In a bizarre incident, a new born male baby was allegedly stolen and replaced with a dead baby at IGM hospital on Monday , Police said quoting hospital officials and the family of the baby.
The baby had been allegedly stolen from maternity ward of IGM Hospital .
Police added Mampi Das Nama (23) of Bishalgarh had delivered a son two days back in Bishalgarh Sub divisional hospital . Later she was referred to IGM hospital on that night due to some complications related to anaemia.
According to complaint, the baby was stolen between 5 am to 9 am when mother was in deep sleep after breast-feeding her baby.
In the meantime, a special nurse took the baby on her lap and left the hospital with the newborn.
When the matter was noticed the family members came there asking for their son, claimed Litan Nama, father of the new born.
The newborn, however, had been replaced by another dead baby, alleged the parents of infant.
However, hospital authorities claimed that they had taken away the newborn to the ICU following some complications. Later the infant died at ICU unit of IGM hospital.
The family members of the stolen baby who appealed the authorities to find the new born said the baby’s mother has taken seriously ill after the baby theft.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered with West Agartala Police Station, said police adding that immediately autopsy had been conducted on the corpse of infant and after submission of the autopsy report, the actual fact would be unearthed.
However, Litan Nama also sought for DNA test.
The authorities of IGM hospital held a meeting and ordered a probe into the complaint.
