Agartala, Jul 15, 2012 : After government’s decision to set up three more professional colleges - dental, ayurvedic and homeopathic in public-private partnership (PPP) model, the Tripura government has received good response from various organizations proposing to set up three medical institutions.

The government had invited Expression of Interest (EoI) for establishing three medical colleges early this year. “A number of organizations expressed their interest to set up the institutions in response to the EoIs. Now, the government is looking into the bids”, said an official of health department.

As per the decision, the Homeopathic College will come up at Kailashahar, Ayurvedic College and Dental College are to be established at Udaipur and Agartala.

The government received EoI from one organization from Kerala which has expertise in running Ayurvedic hospital. However, other organizations don’t have expertise in running either Dental Hospital or Homeopathic Hospital which was precondition of the EoI”, said Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty.

The minister said "for the ayurvedic and homeopathic colleges, the central government has sanctioned Rs.8.10 crore. The state has allotted land for setting up of the three 50-seated medical colleges."

The government is working on the proposals, he said adding that if the situation requires, the government will remodel the plan.

Altogether eight PHCs will come up during the month to boost the rural healthcare facilities.

Earlier, this the cabinet has already decided to appoint 150 doctors in order to address the shortage of physicians. As per the guideline, the state needs 127 PHCs while it has only 81 PHCs. The state requires 1460 doctors to run the government hospitals but currently the number of doctors stands at 740. The shortage of doctors will be mitigated after appointment of new doctors in the state.
