State aims at 70 pc revenue from forest

Agartala, Jul 02, 2012 : The state government is contemplating productive programmes to ensure 60-70percent of the total revenue generation in coming days, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at the inaugural fnction of the 63rd state level vanamahotsava at Bishramganj.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the Chief Minister said, “a large section of poeple who were involved in destruction of forest lands are now involved in preserving them”. He raised a strong note of question on the status of forest conservation saying, “the state has already achieved position across the nation in blood donation and donation of other body parts; why not in forest?” 

“Funds generated from forest resources will become an integral part of the state’s revenue sources. The government has got plans for the goal”, said he.

Stating that the state hasgot 66-67 percent of its total land area under forest cover, the Chief Minister said that forest density does not match expectation in many parts of the state. The government is trying to organize people engaged in initiatives of conseving forest land in the sub-divisional areas, said Sarkar.
