Food minister sends SOS to FCI, IOC

Agartala, Jul 01, 2012 : Tripura government requested Union Food and Civil Supply ministry and Food Corporation of India (FCI) to maintain the daily stock of food grains and petroleum products through surface transport till the resumption of railway services in NE region.

Food and Civil Supply Minister Manik Dey on Saturday sent official requests to the regional headquarters of FCI and Indian Oil corporation (IOC) in Guwahati.

The goods train services between Tripura and Assam had been cut off since June 26 last for landslips in North Cachar hills.

Dey added that the railway engines for Tripura with three racks of rice and two racks of sugar have been stranded at Lumding area of Assam due to land slide.

“In this circumstances its rational demand of Tripura for transportation of necessary goods through surface transport in order to curb future crisis of essential food item”, said Dey.

He said, out of 51 LPG filled bullet trucks, 21 trucks had already crossed Churaibari check post on Saturday and rest bullet trucks will reach Tripura within two days.

Giving details of public distribution stocks in Tripura, Dey said till Saturday the state has rice stock of next 78 days, wheat for next 31 days, sugar for 39 days, petrol for 11 days, diesel for 19 days and kerosene for next 35 days.
