Tremor jolts Northeast

Agartala, Jul 16, 2012 : A moderate range of earthquake once again rocked the Northeastern states in the mid night of Sunday. However, there were no casualties or damage to property.

According to IMD, the quake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale and took place around 1.25 am. The tremor felt in Itanagar, Guwahati and Agartala, besides Kohima in Nagaland.

The tremor epicenter was latitude 25.5 degrees north and longitude 94.2 degrees east in Kohima, Nagaland. It originated 35 km below the surface, the IMD added. 

The state is located in seismic Zone -5 and considered highly vulnerable.
