Palatana first unit to get operational in July, says OTPC

Agartala, Jul 09, 2012 : First unit of the ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) sponsored 726.6 MW power plant at Palatana would get operational within July, said Managing Director of OTPC SK Dubey here today.

Speaking about present status of operation at the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) project, the official said that the project would have hydrocarbon charging from Monday.

K Satyanarayana, ONGC Tripura Asset Manager, is scheduled to inaugurate the first unit on the day. While the project is scheduled to get operational this month, commercial generation is expected to start next month.

ONGC said in an official communiqué earlier this month that 2.6 million standard cubic meter of gas per day (mmscmd) would be required for Palatana project after starting generation in full swing.

Dubey added that transmission line associated with the plant is scheduled

to be completed by this year.

The 246- km stretch between Palatana and Silchar is nearing completion. This represents the first phase the 661-km transmission line that will connect the Palatana power plant to the national grid at Bongaigaon under initiatives of Northeast Power Trading Company, ONGC officials said.

Another stretch between Silchar and Byrnihat will be operational by

October this year.

Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Manipur are scheduled to buy power from the power plant once it gets commercially operational. ONGC is supposed to supply gas for the project from the state’s own gas reserves.
