Eleven injured in student clashes at BBM College

Agartala, Jul 01, 2012 : Pitched battle between Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists left eleven injured at Bir Bikram Memorial College here on Saturday .

The clash started with allegations and counter allegations of defiling organizational flags and festoons from both sides. NSUI state president Vikki Prasad alleged that eight supporters of the organization were injured by assault launched by SFI cadres and outsiders.

“The ruling party student organization had torn our flags and festoons before anybody reached the college today. We reached to find several flags torn, burnt and flex banners slashed apart. On being asked about the story behind the issue, SFI cadres launched attack on us leaving eight injured in our side”, said NSUI president Prasad. “Hooligans were intentionally assembled in the BBM College campus to attack us. Burning our flags might be some kind of issue to fuel the clash”, he added.

SFI state secretary Nabarun Deb, however, refuted all allegations of the opposition student body. NSUI cadres defiled SFI flags and festoons to create unrest in the college campuses ahead of the coming assembly election, said he. Three SFI supporters were injured in the brawl, added Deb.

Eight NSUI supporters - Somnath Bhattacharya, Titan Roy, Sentu Ghosh, Kishalay Debnath, Ramanuj Chakraborty and others were injured in the clash on Saturday . Bitan Das, state committee member of SFI, was seriously injured on the other side. None was reported critical after primary aid anyway.
