Tripura to seek enhanced fuel induction

Agartala, Jul 05, 2012 : The state government will be asking for enhanced fuel induction through roadways after supplies through rail route got disrupted on June 26 due to landslide.

Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies - Manik Dey said that a meeting was scheduled to be held with Siraj Hossain, CMD of Food Corporation ofIndia (FCI) and officials of eight northeastern states at Guwahati on July 6.

Food Director Debashish Basu would represent the state at the meeting.

On present stock position of petrol and petrol-derivative fuel in the state, the minister said that Tripura was having 36 days stock for kerosene and petrol and diesel stock. The stock is sufficient. But, Dey admitted that the kerosene stock might bring trouble if induction was not done through tankers soon.

“Total kerosene supply was monitored by induction through railways. Rail service is lying disconnected since June 26 due to landslides.Induction through roadways has to increase”, stated the minister.

Goods train service in Assam-Tripura segment was disconnected after repeated landslides disrupted services in North Cacchar Hills.

The meeting with CMD of FCI is also expected to discuss pressing necessities of hiked supplies for most Northeastern states after incessant rains causedflood-situation in Assam.The state was reported to have got around 75 days stock for rice, 30 days stockfor wheat and 40 days stock for sugar supplies in Public Distribution System(PDS).
