Storm: Kills one in North Tripura, 944 families affected

Agartala, Jun 05, 2012 : Cyclonic storm wrecked havoc once again in several villages under North and Unakoti districts of Tripura. Storm also killed one person and about 944 families were affected by storm.

After destroying four villages of north Kalamcherra Gram Panchayat under Sonamura subdivision in the wee hours of Sunday, the cyclonic storm wrecked havoc in another four subdivisions Dharmanagar, Panisagar, Kanchanpur and Kailasahar on Sunday night.

Official sources said, one person was killed, when a big tree uprooted and fall in his house at Digalbakh villager under Dharmanagar subdivision. As many as 944 families of the North and Unakoti districts were affected due to heavy storm.

About 50 families were rendered homeless and sheltered in rescue camps after a heavy torrential rain and cyclonic storm destroyed their homes.

There are reports of heavy damages to crops and destruction of electric lines and tele-communication line due to storm. Heavy trees including rubber trees and poles were pulled out of the earth. 

However, SDM (Dharmanagar) Muslem Uddin visited bereaved family of Rinku Nath and handed over Rs 10,000 to the family members. The subdivisional authorities also visited the cyclonic affected areas on Sunday and declared immediate relief of affected people. The sub divisional administration has also started supply of relief materials to affected families.
