Badal inaugurates online services of Taxes and Excises

Agartala, Jun 04, 2012 : The relationship between states and union government has been deteriorating under the regime of United Progressive Alliances (UPA), said Finance Minister Badal Choudhury .

Launching the new website for Taxes and Excises organization on Sunday at Pragna Bhavan, Choudhury said that the central government was allocating funds to states based on political consideration instead of its performance.

He said, Tripura has been facing unprecedented financial crisis in view of the 13th Finance Commission’s deprivation.

The Union Finance Ministry did not follow the planning commission’s method and recommendations on Open Market Borrowing by the state governments, said Chaudhury.

He said the government had to undergo serious fiscal hardship, particularly in ensuring timely payment of various committed liabilities, including salaries and pensions and has also been forced to put all ongoing development activities on hold for shortage of financial resources.

He also demanded for expedite development, to ease tax burden on the common people and to give better services to them by not raising tax by the states, the centre should grant 50 percent of the central tax to the states instead of existing 32 percent. 

Commenting on the launching of new website and e- services, Chaudhury said that it will help the tax payers from unnecessary harassment and maintaining transparency. Chief Secretary S K Panda, Additional Principal Secretary K V Satyanarayan and Commissioner of Taxes and Excise Brijesh Pandey along with other were present in the programme.
