Peaceful by-poll begins in Nalchhar

Agartala, Jun 12, 2012 : Bye-election to Nalchhar Assembly constituency began this morning in peaceful note. Till filing this report there was no news of any untoawrd incident in any parts of the constituency. Massive security arrangements were made with TSR, BSF CRPF along with police.

A total of 33392 electors are casting their vote today in 38 booths by EVM.

"Unprecedented security blanket was thrown in the the assembly for free and fair elections. Four observers were also put in place to ensure the free poll", said a senior election department official here adding that there would be no 'postal ballot' in this by-poll.

"Voting is in full swing and it is peaceful", he said.

The by-poll was ordered following death of incumbent CPM MLA Sukumar Barman.

The poll battle has been virtually confined to two traditional rivals Congress and CPM.
