Indian High Commissioner monitors Indo-Bangla projects

Agartala, Jun 06, 2012 : Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran on Wednesday left the capital city Agartala to visit the proposed site of Feni Bridge at Sabroom.

Saran will review the technical survey for construction of bridge over river Feni, which is going on in full swing. 

Earlier, on Tuesday Saran arrived in the city through Akhaura Check Post and visited check post area, where the Integrated Check Post would be set for better bilateral trade between two countries.

He also had a brief meeting with BSF officials before heading for the Civil Secretariat.

He met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chaudhury.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar during meeting with Indian HC had requested the envoy to visit the Northeast region at least twice in a year keeping in mind the trade and investment possibilities in this region with neighbouring countries.

Speaking with media persons, Saran said, it was courtesy call. ‘My visit to Agartala is to know the ground realities as I took the charge of Indian HC recently’ said Saran.

He said that the decision taken by the Union government for improvement of bilateral relation between both countries was being implemented and High Commissioner will review Agartala-Akhaura rail link, setting up of bridge over river Feni and raising infrastructures at different locations of the state for setting up border haats.

Besides visits of high commissioner, the officials of Foreign and Commerce Ministry of both countries would also visit the proposed site for Feni Bridge, spots for proposed border haats and trade facilities at the existing land customs stations on June 9 next.
