Agartala, Oct. 3: Agartala’s Puja spirit is set to soar on Pawan Hans.
The helicopter service is offering a ride to Puja revellers on the 11-seater chopper for an aerial view of the town and its adjoining areas.
As soon as the ride was announced last night, nearly 2,000 enthusiasts made a mad rush to the ticket counter within the Tripura Road Transport Corporation complex in the heart of the town to book a berth in the six-seater helicopter at a cost of Rs 500 per head. Even though the chopper’s capacity is 11, it will fly if at least six passengers are on board.
Pawn Hans has flown two sorties with six passengers each from Agartala airport. The final sortie was completed before sundown.
Among the passengers who had an aerial view of Agartala town and its vicinity was Dipankar Roy, an ONGC engineer. “It was an ethereal feeling flying over Agartala and looking down at the major landmarks of the town, the Ujjayanta Palace, MBB College, the temples in front of the palace, Jawahar Bridge, Agartala railway station and Chaturdash Debata temple,” he gushed.
The other passengers were equally excited. Though an overcast sky did scare them a little, the revellers decided to fly.
Transport minister Manik Dey said the government has been mulling over the demand for a Puja tour on the Pawan Hans. “The proposal was always there. We okayed the tour in view of Durga Puja.”
He said passengers below the age of 12 will have to pay Rs 400 only. The minister said apart the service will run on all four days of Durga Puja barring exigencies.
