Landslide in Assam affects food stock in state

Agartala, Jun 29, 2012 : Landslide on Lumding-Agartala rail route rendered the state to face food buffer stock crisis while several passengers were left helpless midway in different parts of Assam.

The state government has taken initiatives to extend transportation aid to the stranded passengers through Resident Commissioner of Tripura Bhawan at Guwahati, said Transport Minister Manik Dey here today.

“Trains of the route halted at Harengajao and Maibongdisa in Assam. Passengers have been brought from both locations to Lanka where from they will be taken to Guwahati. Further transportation will be borne by the passengers according to their requirement”, said the minister.

Meanwhile,Tripura was left with 77 days buffer stock of rice, 33 days buffer stock of wheat, 96 days stock of salt and 42 days buffer stock of sugar due to the stoppage of induction of PDS items through railways. Fuel stock condition is worse.

The state has got 11 days stock of petrol, 19 days stock of diesel and 36 days stock of kerosene oil, informed the minister.

“The worst of all is that repair work in the landslide-affected rail route could not start due to heavy downpour. The work will require 7-10 says ”, the minister added.
