Power generation improves, load shedding cut short

Agartala, Jun 22, 2012 : The power generation in two units of Dumbur hydel power plant has resumed on Thursday after four months of inaction.

Official sources said, low water level in Dumbur lake and long dry spell forced the authorities to stop the generation from two units of 8 MW capacity in February last.

Among the two units, one 4 MW capacity unit started its power generation partially in the last part of May. But after June 6 last, the heavy shower increased the water level in Dumbur lake and on Thursday both units started generation in full swing.

Now the state’s own power generation stands at 82 MW, while the overall demand of power stands at 205 MW. The current supply is 147 MW which leaves a shortfall of 58 MW, said Tripura State electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

TSECL added that the daily power cut has been reduced from two hours to one and half hour after improvement in internal power generation.
