Sonamura: BSF ordered court of inquiry

Agartala, Jun 02, 2012 : In order to protest the killing of villager Swapan Deb (42) in BSF firing, the traders of Jatrapur and Kathaliya under Sonamura subdivision closed their shops and market on Saturday.

Deceased Swapan Deb was also a trader of Kathaliya bazaar and former member of market committee.

On Friday ,large number of villagers and supporters of CPM organized a mass rally and submitted a deputation at Jatrapur police station demanded immediate arrest of involved BSF jawans of 29th battalion for killing of Swapan Deb "without provocation" on the spot."

However, police in a statement said, following the incident Jatrapur police station registered a murder case under section- 302 and 34 of IPC and all necessary steps are being taken for prompt and thorough investigation of this case.

Two accused jawans were identified as Mangi Ram, the main accused and his companion Rajen Tude.

Police added that, BSF authorities have been requisitioned for the production of the accused Jawans and the service weapon used in this incident. The Police have also requested the BSF to explore ways to compensate the victim’s family. 

The BSF authorities, had already deposited the used INSUS rifle at Jatrapur police station, but did not handed over two accused jawans.

Meanwhile, IG, BSF, said that two BSF Jawans have already been taken in Force custody and a Court of Inquiry (COI) has been ordered and stiffest possible action would be taken against guilty persons.

IG, BSF has further assured all possible cooperation in police investigation and confirmed that the BSF company deployed in K.K. Nagar area would be replaced shortly.
