Left Front declares new cabinet, Anil walks out, two new faces

Agartala, Mar 05, 2013 : Tripura Left Front committee on Tuesday declared the list of members of the cabinet of 7th Left Front government in Tripura. The list portrays two outgoing ministers – CPI (M) veteran and Information and Cultural Affairs minister Anil Sarkar and defeated Left Front candidate from RK Pur constituency – Joy Gobinda Debroy while two new have come in. New faces in the cabinet are former Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly – Bhanulal Saha and former Vice Chairman of South Tripura Zilla Parishad – Ratan Bhowmik. Manik Sarkar, who has been leading the state government for last three consecutive terms, was named the next Chief Minister this evening.

The new 12 member cabinet, as resolved in the meeting of Left Front government, comprises of Manik Sarkar, Aghore Debbarma, Badal Choudhury, Tapan Chakraborty, Manik Dey, Jitendra Choudhury, Khagendra Jamatia, Manindra Reang, Bijita Nath, Sahid Choudhury, Bhanu Lal Saha, Ratan Bhowmik. 

Speaking to reporters at the CPI (M) state headquarters at Melarmath this evening, Tripura Left Front convener – Khagen Das said that the cabinet had to be restricted within the highest ceiling of 12 due to bindings on a 60-member assembly constituency.

Communist veteran Anil Sarkar was named as Vice Chairman of the Tripura Planning Board. Samir Deb Sarkar, who served as Chief Whip of the assembly, would continuing as the Chief Whip during the tenure of the 11th assembly. Ramendra Debnath was named as the Speaker of Tripura state legislative assembly once again while Pabitra Kar, Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) would assume office of the Deputy Speaker. The Chief Minister would announce the respective portfolios of the ministers during swear-in-ceremony at Raj Bhawan on March 06, convener of the Tripura Left Front Committee said.
