Agartala, Mar 04, 2013 : Assam Pradesh Congress Committee vehemently criticized the incident at Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhawan, Agartala, on Sunday where Congress veteran and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was hackled alongwith other AICC leaders. A section of dissented Congress supporters literally abused and physically abused the AICC delegation including Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, AICC General Secretary Shakel Ahmed and Luizinho Faleiro. Tripura Pradesh Congress president Sudip Roy Barman was hackled during the brawl as well by party supporters, allegedly drive out of their households in Joynagar, Pratapgarh, Khayerpur areas during post-poll violence. The hapless party workers reportedly gathered at Congress Bhawan on the day to complain national leaders about post-election violence from ruling CPI (M) cadres. Denied a scope to speak, they became infuriated and the brawl ensued.
Referring to the issue, Pradip Dutta Roy, Secretary of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Rajiv Bhawan, said in an official communiqué on Monday that the incident has considerably degraded image of Tripura Pradesh Congress in front of the entire region. He also said that the incident has proven total failure of control of TPCC leaders to conduct their duties on the day.
Dutta Roy cited the anecdote of decades of Congress politics in Assam amid tumultuous conflict situation where secessionist forces have been very active till recently and said that Assam Pradesh Congress Committee leaders, cadres are still disciplined way beyond question. He flayed the Tripura Pradesh Congress top brass for loss of control and party discipline and stated that Chief Minister of Assam – Tarun Gogoi has been deeply hurt and shocked at the state-of-affairs in Tripura. Discussions were also held with Gogoi for taking up initiatives of internal probe within the Tripura Pradesh Congress. The Assam Pradesh Congress leaders were also reported to have been considering possibilities of conspiracies behind Sunday’s incident at the Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhawan. The statement also said that ‘leadership style of Santosh Mohan Deb’ shouldn’t be expected from Tarun Gogoi.
