Agartala, Aug 03, 2012 : The state government has achieved massive success in promoting alternative source of energy in the state during last few years, Science and Technology Minister Joygobinda Debroy said here on Thursday. Speaking to reporters at a press conference in civil secretariat this evening, the minister informed that Tripura is currently producing over 700 million units of power from solar and other alternative source like biogas.
The minister also added that the state government is planning for initializing 100 KW solar power plants in different areas of the state in current financial year. Few such power harvesting units are already functional at Dhalai, North Tripura district and Neermahal in Sepahijala district.
Speaking about advancements of the state in the field of conceptualizing trends of environmental shift, the minister said that state government has adopted a climate change action plan recently. The action plan proposal having an estimated financial involvement of Rs. 1250 crores has been approved by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
He also informed that the government is planning to conduct a series of surveys on impact of industry on the environment of Bodhjungnagar industrial estate, potent nutrient value of soil, sound level in different areas based on population density etc. Tripura State Pollution Control Board has already conducted a survey on pollution status of River Howrah. While the report waits for formal unveiling, Department for Science and Technology is undertaking plans to conduct survey on 10 other major rivers of the state.
