Bengali book on Buddhism unveiled

Agartala, Aug 11, 2012 : Ramkrishna Das, a man of Tripura who translated a book on Buddhism based on the philosophy and religious ideas of Lord Buddha, has got tremendous response from believers of Buddhism.

On August 2, Dalai Lama, the supreme spiritual leader of Buddhism unveiled the Bengali translation of “Dharma Pada” at Leh in Jammu Kashmir, containing spiritual content on Buddhism.

Ramkrishna Das, born in Udaipur and brought up in Banamalipur area of Agartala settled in Kolkata after completing his MBA. Later, Mr Das joined in a steel company at Hyderabad. At present Mr Das is working as a marketing manager of this steel company.

Speaking with tripurainfo, Mr Das said, “the verses of ‘Dhammapada’ was delivered by Buddha. It is a world famous religious book, translated in all leading languages of the world. I have translated it from Dr Wangchuk Dorjee Negi’s Hindi translation with commentary”. 

This kind of commentary is not available in Bengali, said Das adding that there are four more books available in the market, but this book is different in all aspects.

He added that Dr Wangchuk Dorjee Negi wrote the book first in Tibetan language, then translated into Hindi. Dr Negi is director of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Leh.

Das also said, Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama appreciated his efforts and hoped that the Bengali translation of ‘Dhammapada’ will educate the people with traditions, beliefs, and practices propagated by Lord Buddha.
